There are numerous works in the area of online visualizations. However, two that I feel are the most closely related to Web Squared are as follows:
Post History
Post History by Fernanda Viegas is a visualization that explores email through time. One idea that I used in Web Squared is that size correlates to the amount of email. This is intuitive, as people associate larger sizes with larger numbers.
Social Network Fragments
Social Network Fragments is a collaboration between Danah Boyd and Jeff Potter. The way in which they use physics to demonstrate human relationships through email is one of the inspirations for my piece. I originally intended to include physics, but ran into some of the same issues that they described in theirs.
